Christmas in July: Why a Little Christmas Magic Belongs in Every Summer
Summer sunshine, backyard barbecues, county fairs, farmers markets... and Santa Claus?
Absolutely!
Believe it or not, one of my favorite times of the year isn't just December—it's Christmas in July. Every summer I have the privilege of visiting farmers markets, campgrounds, parks, youth sporting events, community festivals, and local businesses throughout Northern New York, and I can tell you something with complete certainty:
People never outgrow the joy of Christmas.
There is something extraordinary that happens when Christmas magic arrives in the middle of summer. Smiles appear a little faster. Conversations last a little longer. Children light up with excitement. Adults suddenly become kids again, remembering Christmases from years gone by.
That's the true gift of Christmas in July—it reminds us that kindness, wonder, generosity, and community don't belong to just one season.
What Is Christmas in July?
Christmas in July began as a fun way to celebrate the spirit of Christmas during the warmest months of the year. Over time it has grown into a beloved tradition celebrated across the country by communities, businesses, campgrounds, parks, libraries, churches, and organizations looking to bring families together for something truly memorable.
Today, Christmas in July events are more popular than ever.
Whether it's a bustling farmers market, a campground filled with campers decorating golf carts, or a youth sports league celebrating their players, Christmas in July creates an experience people remember long after summer has ended.
And yes... Santa enjoys trading snow boots for sandals every once in a while.
The reindeer don't exactly approve, but they're usually too busy relaxing to complain.
Bringing Christmas Magic to Farmers Markets
One of my favorite places to visit during the summer is a local farmers market.
Farmers markets are already wonderful gathering places where neighbors support local farms, artisans, craftsmen, bakers, and small businesses. Adding Santa Claus to the mix creates something even more magical.
Children stop for photos.
Parents linger longer.
Shoppers smile at one another.
Vendors enjoy the extra excitement.
Suddenly a Saturday morning shopping trip becomes a family memory.
I've seen children run across a market simply because they spotted Santa talking with a local vendor. Before long, families are visiting every booth, meeting new people, supporting local businesses, and creating wonderful memories together.
That's what Christmas magic is all about.
Campgrounds and RV Parks Become the North Pole
Campgrounds may be one of the best places on Earth for Christmas in July.
Families are already together. They're relaxing around campfires, swimming, roasting marshmallows, fishing, and making memories.
Adding Santa Claus creates an experience children will talk about for years.
I've watched campgrounds transform into miniature North Poles complete with decorated campsites, golf cart parades, Christmas crafts, cookie decorating, scavenger hunts, and visits with Santa.
Even the adults get involved.
Some campsites become wonderfully competitive, trying to outdo one another with lights, decorations, inflatables, and Christmas spirit.
The elves tell me that's exactly the kind of friendly competition they support.
Parks, Festivals, and Community Celebrations
Community parks and summer festivals are built around bringing people together.
Christmas in July fits perfectly into that mission.
Instead of simply attending another event, families become part of an experience.
Children receive hugs and high-fives from Santa.
Parents capture photographs they'll treasure forever.
Grandparents tell stories about Christmas traditions.
Neighbors who have never met suddenly find themselves laughing together while waiting to visit Santa.
That's community.
And communities grow stronger when people have opportunities to simply enjoy one another.
Youth Sports Deserve a Little Christmas Magic Too
One of the most overlooked opportunities for Christmas in July is youth sports.
Imagine the excitement after a baseball tournament, soccer championship, football camp, or community sports day when Santa Claus arrives to congratulate every young athlete.
Not because they won.
But because they worked hard.
Every child deserves encouragement.
Every child deserves to feel noticed.
Santa isn't there to hand out trophies.
He's there to remind young athletes that kindness, teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship are gifts they carry with them long after the season ends.
Those lessons are just as important in July as they are in December.
Why Businesses Love Christmas in July
Businesses are always searching for ways to create memorable customer experiences.
Christmas in July does exactly that.
Instead of another ordinary promotion, customers receive something unexpected.
Families stay longer.
People take photos.
They share those photos on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
Friends ask where Santa was.
Suddenly your event has reached hundreds—sometimes thousands—of additional people through social media alone.
One of my favorite parts of every event is creating custom promotional videos for organizers before the event. These videos help build excitement, encourage attendance, and give businesses engaging content to share across their social media platforms.
I also proudly share these events through my own social media channels and website, helping spread the excitement even further.
It's a wonderful partnership that benefits everyone involved.
Christmas Spirit Has No Calendar
One of the greatest misconceptions about Christmas is that it belongs to December.
It doesn't.
Christmas isn't found on a calendar.
It's found in generosity.
It's found in laughter.
It's found in helping neighbors.
It's found in community.
It's found every time someone smiles because another person cared enough to brighten their day.
That's why Christmas in July continues to grow every year.
People need hope.
People need joy.
People need something wholesome that brings families together without distractions.
Christmas magic has a remarkable way of doing exactly that.
Sharing the Magic Throughout Northern New York
As Santa James, I'm honored to bring Christmas magic to communities throughout Watertown, Syracuse, Lowville, Carthage, Fort Drum, the Thousand Islands, the Adirondacks, and communities across Northern New York.
Every event is unique because every community has its own personality.
Whether I'm visiting a bustling farmers market, a campground filled with families, a local park celebration, an ice cream social, a community festival, a youth sports event, or a Christmas in July celebration, my goal remains exactly the same:
To create genuine moments of wonder.
To make children believe.
To help families laugh together.
To remind adults that Christmas isn't something we simply celebrate—it is something we share.
Let's Bring Christmas to Your Summer
If you're planning a Christmas in July event, I'd love to help make it unforgettable.
Whether you're organizing a:
Farmers Market
Campground or RV Resort
Community Festival
Park Celebration
Youth Sports League
Library Program
Business Promotion
Christmas Tree Farm Event
Church or Nonprofit Gathering
Summer Festival
Santa can help create lasting memories for every guest.
Every appearance is built around creating authentic interactions, meaningful family moments, and plenty of opportunities for photographs that families will treasure for years.
And don't forget—I'll also create promotional videos to help build excitement before your event, giving your organization engaging content to share across social media.
The elves insist it's one of the smartest ideas we've had since inventing candy canes.
So if you're thinking about celebrating Christmas in July next year, don't wait too long.
Santa's calendar fills surprisingly quickly—even during the summer.
After all, Christmas magic doesn't take the summer off.
It simply changes into a Hawaiian shirt, puts on a pair of sunglasses, and keeps right on spreading joy wherever it's needed.
And I can't wait to share that magic with you.
Merry Christmas... even if it's July!
